Joseph E Abbett, 79, Eagle Creek, Ore., Jan. 21, 1993, at a Gresham, Ore.  There were no funeral services.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel, Gresham.  Mr. Abbett was reared and educated in Troy and farmed outside of Troy until enlisting in the Army.  After receiving a medical discharge from the service, he returned to Troy to continue farming.  He was also employed at Swift and Co., St. Joseph, from 1950-1955.  He moved to Eagle Creek in 1977.  Mr. Abbett married Irene J Keck in 1939 at Troy.  They were later divorced.  Survivors include four sons, Lee Abbett, Eagle Creek, Joseph Abbett, Troutdale, Ore., David Abbett, Camas, Was., and Robert Abbett, Estacada, Ore;; two daughters, Louise Shaw and Gean Owings, Portland, Ore., two sisters, Mary Guthrie, St. Joseph and Stella Bear, Wathena 21 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
