Mary Elizabeth Ward, 79, Troy, died Tuesday, May 11 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Ward was born July 24, 1913 in Troy, the daughter of John M. and Ethel Garvin Mix, and lived her entire life in Troy.
She graduated from Troy High School and received a B.A. degree from Park College, Parksville, Mo., and a Masters in Library Science from Emporia State University. She taught English, Spanish and Child Psychology in Doniphan County schools for 25 years.
Mrs. Ward attended the United Methodist Church of Troy. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star of Troy, a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
She married Clarence E. Ward on Dec. 15, 1937 in Troy. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Mary Leah Thummel, Atchison; a brother, Henry Mix, Spokane, Wash.; four grandsons; and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Courtney on Oct. 18, 1992, and a sister Ruth Cunningham.
Graveside services were Friday at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Troy.
Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Troy, was in charge of arrangements.
