OBIT - - VERNON W. WHITTAKER
8-26-1993
Vernon W. Whittaker, 71, rural Troy, died Wednesday, August 18, 1993, at a Wathena nursing home.
Mr. Whittaker was a farmer.  He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born November 8, 1921, in Troy, the son of Louis and Rowena Taylor Whittaker.  He was a farmer and lived all his life in the Doniphan County area.
Mr. Whittaker was a member of the United Methodist Church in Troy and Arkana Lodge No 31, AF&AM, Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post No. 6 of the American Legion and Lt. Jared Fox Jackson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1175, all in Atchison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Lou Whittaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Davies, Troy, and Lou Anne Ward, Wathena; three sons, Steven Whittaker, Raymond Whittaker and Terry Whittaker, all of Troy; a brother, Paul Whittaker, Troy; and seven grandchildren and a niece.
Services were Saturday, August 21, at Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, under the direction of Donald Harter.  Pallbearers were Dennis Culp, Larry Jones, Glenn Kincade, Don Meng, Lee Miller and Aaron Winzer.  Honorary pallbearers were Travis Davies, Harold Ward, Russell Spencer and Fred Mears.
Military graveside services were conducted by American Legion Post No. 6 at Mount Olive Cemetery at Troy.  Masonic services were conducted Friday evening, August 20.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Troy Athletic Boosters.
