OBIT -- VERA LOUISE DEAN

Vera Louise Dean, 73, Troy, died Friday, Jan. 22 at a St.  Jo hospital.
Mrs. Dean was born April 9, 1919, in Troy, the daughter of Otto and Corda Priebe Schmidtke, and was a lifelong resident of Doniphan County.
She was an elementary school teacher, retiring in 1973 after 32 years of teaching in Doniphan County.  She taught in the rural schools for six years and the last 26 years she taught the fifth grade at the Troy Grade School.  She received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Benedictine College in Atchison.
Mrs. Dean was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Wathena, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Doniphan County Retired Teachers Association, and the State and National Retired Teachers Associations.  She held various offices in these associations.
She was married to Logan Dean.  He preceded her in death in 1978.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Otto (Bud) Schmidtke.
Survivors include four cousins.
Services were held Tuesday in Wathena.  Burial was at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Troy.  Rev. Michael Sharp officiated.  Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Wathena.
Pallbearers were Gus Wood, Watson Wynkoop, Hugh Burke, Hilman Hull, Larry Jones, James Ruddy, Donald Harter, Dale Whiteside.
Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Troy, was in charge of arrangements.
